Union minister of parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday urged Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi not to “disparage India” while criticising the government. The union minister gave these remarks while sharing billionaire Elon Musk's reaction to a global statistics report that ranked India ahead of US in terms of global GDP contribution forecast for 2026. Musk, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), shared the list and asserted that the "balance of power" is changing.

Rijiju's remarks came a day after Rahul Gandhi criticised the policies of the NDA government, further alleging that all the sectors of economy are struggling. In his post, Rijiju asserted that he was sharing Musk's post to suggest the Congress leader to be a "proud Indian". “I normally do not react to statements which are not made by Indians. I'm quoting @elonmusk only to sensitise Rahul Gandhi ji that, while criticizing the govt is a democratic right, do not disparage India & never belittle India's achievement. Be a proud Indian,” Rijiju stated in his post.

As per the global statistics report, China and India together contribute 43.6 per cent of global growth. The list ranked India on second rank after China with a GDP contribution forecast of 17 per cent. Apart from Rijiju, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also reacted to the remarks of Musk, suggesting the opposition to understand the strength of Indian economy.

While reacting to the Union Budget for the financial year 2026-27, Rahul Gandhi alleged that all the key sectors of economy has been struggling under the NDA government. “Youth without jobs. Falling manufacturing. Investors pulling out capital. Household savings plummeting. Farmers in distress. Looming global shocks - all ignored. A Budget that refuses course correction, blind to India’s real crises,” Gandhi stated in his post.

Earlier in July 2025, the Congress leader had reiterated the remarks of US President Donald Trump who claimed that the Indian economy was dead.
