A teacher in Karnataka’s Kolar district was suspended on Wednesday for fracturing a hand of a student allegedly for worshipping a Ganesha statue in school. The teacher, identified as Hemlatha, was the headmistress of Allikalli Village Primary School in KGF taluk. 

According to the police, the headmistress punished the student, Bhavya, for worshipping a Ganesh statue in school last week. The suspension order was issued by the Kolar Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Krishna Murthy after the parents of the girl complained to the KGF Block Education Officer (BEO) about the incident.

The BEO, Munivenkataramachari, visited the injured student and filed a report against the headmistress and was also directed to take care of the medical expenses of the student.

In another incident recently, a school teacher and a principal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district were booked by the police for allegedly beating up a student for writing “Jai Shri Ram” on the blackboard. The student suffered injuries and was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The incident took place at the Government High School in the Nagri Parole area of Kathua. The school teacher reportedly got angry when he saw the slogan written on the blackboard and thrashed the student with a stick while the principal also joined in the assault and locked the student in a room.

The police registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Juvenile Justice Act after the parents of the student lodged a complaint. The police said that they are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action.
