A team of CBI on Monday interrogated Dr Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, for the fourth consecutive day in the tragic rape and murder case of a female doctor. Ghosh has so far been questioned for over 50 hours in the last four days. As per sources, cited by Jagran.com, he has been providing fabricated information to the probe agency team.
Several discrepancies were found in his statements, which do not align with the testimonies of the witnesses. The federal probe agency also expressed doubts that Dr Ghosh might have deleted several key information from his phone.
Meanwhile, a corruption case has also been filed against Dr Ghosh by the Kolkata Police. The state police are investigating financial irregularities at the state-run hospital, an issue that has been under scrutiny since a complaint was filed in June. The state government had formed an SIT in this regard.
The CBI also interrogated four students from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who allegedly had dinner with the trainee doctor on the fateful night. The team also visited the doctor’s home and spoke with close friends. The team also re-inspected the crime scene.
The accused Sanjay Rai will undergo a polygraph test. A polygraph is a machine used to detect lies. According to CBI sources, permission from the court to conduct the polygraph test has been granted. The exact date of the test will be decided soon. In the meantime, the CBI, with the help of CFSL officials from Delhi, conducted a psychological evaluation of Rai.
The Supreme Court will hear petitions related to the case today. Delhi Medical Association (DMA), Federation of Association of Medical Consultants of India (FAMCI), besides several other organisations had filed petitions urging the apex court to take suo moto cognisance of the matter.
