The Supreme Court will today resume hearing pleas related to barbaric rape and murder of female doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. As per the top court’s erstwhile order, the CBI will also present its probe report. The details about findings will be handed over to CJI DY Chandrachud in a sealed cover. Besides, Bengal Government has also been asked to submit status report on action taken in mob vandalism at the hospital.

Notably, the top court had taken suo moto cognisance of the matter and rebuked the state government and Kolkata police over lethargic approach during the initial phase of the probe.

The Supreme Court ordered the establishment of a 10-member national task force to provide recommendations on preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals. The task force includes five women and several leaders from healthcare sector. The task force has been asked to present an interim report within three weeks, followed by a comprehensive report by two months.

The top court also asked the Bengal government to refrain from unleashing the state’s power on peaceful protesters. It had also asked the medical professionals to return back to their duty, asserting that their concerns were being dealt with on priority basis.

The security of RG Kar Medical College was also handed over to the central forces by the Supreme Court. CISF DG on Wednesday reached the hospital to review the security and hold discussion with the authorities.

The brutal rape and murder of the 31-year-old postgraduate woman trainee doctor has sparked nationwide outrage and protests. The doctors are adamant and have decided to continue their protest, seeking justice for the medico.

On August 13, the Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation to the CBI, citing "serious lapses" by the administration of RG Kar hospital.
