The Supreme Court on Monday commenced hearing on the rape and murder case of a female doctor at Kolkata-based RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. A bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra is hearing the matter, which the apex court had taken up suo motu. The CBI, which was handed over the probe of the incident, has submitted a comprehensive status report before the court.
Meanwhile, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who is appearing for the Bengal government in the case, informed the top court over 23 people had died during the doctors’ protest.

CJI DY Chandrachud directed the CBI to file a fresh status report in the court by next week with additional inputs. “We will take the case on Tuesday, let’s see what happens now…CBI is doing it, we don’t want to guide CBI on its investigation,” he said.
What SC asked:
The Supreme Court inquired whether the footage of the search and seizure conducted between 8:30 PM and 10:45 PM had been submitted to the CBI. SG Mehta responded that there are four clips with a total duration of 27 minutes. SG Mehta further stated that the CBI has decided to send the samples to AIIMS and other central forensic laboratories.
SC on Centre's plea:
On Centre's plea, alleging the Bengal government wasn't cooperating with the CISF team deployed at the RG Kar Hospital, the top court ordered a senior officer of the state home department along with the senior CISF officer shall jointly ensure that all three companies are duly provided accommodation in the vicinity.

SC also directed that all necessary requisitions required by CISF personnel be duly compiled today and also directed to provide security gadgets by 9 pm today.
The bench sou immediate removal of photographs of the RG Kar victim from all social media platforms and electronic media to protect her dignity and privacy. “All photographs of the dead body are to be removed forthwith,” it said.
SC rebukes Bengal government:
The Supreme Court has also rapped the state government over no mention of the challan issued along with the autopsy report of the victim. “Look at the PMR. The constable is supposed to carry this challan…there is no reference of the challan used. You (government) need to explain, tomorrow, if this document is missing. You will have to explain why this happened,” remarked Justice JB Pardiwala, as per Live Law.
Sibal, representing the Bengal government, however, said an affidavit will be submitted regarding the document.
The CJI reiterated the FIR in the case was registered after 14 hours of the incident
