The parents of the female medico, who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, alleged a top cop offered them money to manage the case after the incident. The parents of a 31-year-old doctor tore into the police as they participated in the protest march aimed at seeking justice for their daughter. They said the police have, from the very beginning, tried to muffle the case.

“The police, from the very beginning, tried to hush up the case. We were not allowed to see the body and had to wait at the police station while the body was taken for post-mortem examinations," NDTV quoted the victim’s father as saying while addressing the protesters. He also said a senior police official offered them money, which they declined.

Kolkata Police has been attracting a massive ire over their lethargic approach in dealing with the case. The Supreme Court, in a suo moto hearing, rebuked the police after a few miscreants rampaged RG Kar Medical Collage days after the incident. The apex court also expressed its resentment over the delay in registering an FIR in the case.

The CBI, which took up the probe from the Police after the Calcutta High Court order, claimed the crime spot was altered and collecting evidence from there was quite a big task.

The top court also chided Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical Collage, after he initially referred the case as a suicide. Notably, Ghosh resigned from his post after outrage erupted over the incident.

Later, he was arrested by the CBI in an erstwhile corruption case.
