The Supreme Court will today resume hearing on the rape and murder case of a female doctor at Kolkata-based RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. A bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra will hear the matter, which the apex court had taken up suo motu. The CBI, which was handed over the probe of the incident, is likely to submit a comprehensive status report before the court during the hearing.
Besides, the Centre filed an application in the Supreme Court, alleging that the West Bengal government was not cooperating with the CISF, which was assigned the responsibility to guard the Kolkata hospital, where the heinous crime took place.'

In its application, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has requested the court to direct the state officials to provide full cooperation to the CISF.
Notably, the top court had on the previous hearing rebuked the Bengal government and the state police over their lackadaisical approach in dealing with the case. It tore into the police for delay in registering an FIR and failing to protect the incident site, as a group of miscreants rampaged across the hospital, causing significant damage to the property.
The CBI, which took up the probe from the Police after the Calcutta High Court order, claimed in the court that the crime spot was altered and collecting evidence from there was quite a big task.
The top court also chided Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical Collage, after he initially referred the case as a suicide. Notably, Ghosh resigned from his post after outrage erupted over the incident. Later, he was arrested by the CBI in an erstwhile corruption case.
The court made an emotional appeal to the protesting doctors, urging them to return to work, emphasising that justice and medical services cannot be halted. Additionally, the court assured them that it was issuing all necessary directives to ensure their safety.
The doctors association of Delhi AIIMS resumed their work soon after the SC’s appeal. However, doctors in Bengal continue to hold demonstrations, seeking justice for the victim.
