Kolkata News: In an unusual case, a man has been arrested for allegedly harassing his ex-girlfriend by sending her over 300 cash-on-delivery orders over a span of four months. This relentless behaviour prompted the woman, a 24-year-old bank executive, to file a harassment complaint with the Lake Town police.

The victim reported that she was subjected to continuous harassment as her former partner inundated her with multiple delivery packages, causing emotional distress and leading to her accounts being blocked by major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. Initially, police suspected that her colleagues might be involved, but soon discovered that the perpetrator was her ex-boyfriend, 25-year-old Suman Sikdar.

Sikdar, a resident of Nadia, had known the woman for several years. The couple had recently broken up and unable to cope with the separation, Sikdar resorted to sending numerous parcels as an act of revenge. He claimed that the woman enjoyed online shopping and often asked for gifts that he could not afford.

According to police, Sikdar confessed to placing the orders and harassing her with messages and calls from unknown numbers. He believed that the breakup was due to his inability to provide for her.

The victim explained that the harassment began in November last year, shortly after their breakup. She had to return numerous parcels, which included a variety of cash-on-delivery items ranging from tablets and mobile phones to clothing and small gifts. Throughout February, she received multiple deliveries of Valentine’s Day gifts and other products daily, leading to conflicts with delivery agents who left negative ratings for her.

"When I contacted the e-commerce platforms about the issue, they blocked my account," she said, describing the distressing situation.

Sikdar was presented before a Salt Lake court on Wednesday, where he was granted bail following his arrest.
