Kolkata Junior Doctors' Protest: The Kolkata junior doctors on Sunday continued their protest against the Bengal authorities over the death of their colleague at state-run RG Kar college, a day after their failed attempt to meet with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. A group of doctors, who went to meet CM Banerjee for a meeting rejected her proposal for a tea saying they would take it only after the justice was served.
However, the meeting ran into an impasse after the officials rejected the demand of protesting doctors to livestream their meeting with the Chief Minister at Kalighat. “We were asked to come for an official dialogue at Kalighat, we went there. When we went there, we even compromised with our demand that the meeting be live,” Dr Aqeeb, a spokesperson for the protesters, said.
“The CM (Mamata) came outside and requested us to have a meeting over tea – but the junior doctors said that we would have tea only if justice would be delivered. We later gave up on the demand of recording as well and just asked for the minutes of the meeting but it was told to us that there had been a delay and nothing could be done now,” he added.
'Kept Waiting In The Rain'
Dr. Aqeeb further said that the doctors kept waiting in the rain, and later returned without any solution. "All the junior doctors were disheartened," the protesting doctor added while addressing the gathering in front of Swasthya Bhawan.

Sandip Ghosh's Arrest Shows We Were Right
The protesting doctors further said that the arrest of Sandip Ghosh showed that they were right in their demand. Notably, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested former RG Kar principal Ghosh for his alleged involvement in destroying the evidence. The central agency also arrested Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station on similar charges.
"Today, Sandip Ghosh has been arrested and it shows that our demand was right. What Sandip Ghosh has done is an institutional crime. Many of such principals and officials might be involved in such activities. We want all such people involved in it to resign, we will continue our protests until justice is delivered. We are here for Abhaya, and we will continue seeking justice for her," the spokesperson said.
