Metro services on the blue line (Dakshineshwar to Kavi Subhash) were disrupted on Saturday afternoon due to a suicide attempt, the Kolkata Metro railway said in an alert. According to the alert, a person tried to attempt suicide at the Mahatma Gandhi Road station. However, authorities investigating the matter have refused to provide the name of the person who attempted suicide.
Due to this, metro services were disrupted from the Belgachia to Park Street metro stations. During the time period, services were available from Dakshineshwar to Dumdum and from Maidan to Shahid Khudiram.
“Due to a suicide attempt at Mahatma Gandhi Road Station, Metro services on the Blue Line are presently available between Dakshineswar to Dum Dum Station and Maidan to Shahid Khudiram Station,” the alert on Aamar Kolkata Metro said on Saturday afternoon.
Which Stations Were Affected?
The following stations were affected due to the disruption in Kolkata Metro’s Blue Line:
- Belgachia
- Shyambazar
- Shobhabazar Sutanuti
- Mahatma Gandhi Road
- Central
- Chandni Chowk
- Esplanade
- Park Street
Saturday’s incident is the second incident in the past three days which has disrupted Kolkata Metro Blue Line services. Earlier, on Thursday, the metro services on the arterial north-south alignment were affected for nearly an hour in the afternoon owing to an alleged suicide attempt.
The man tried to commit suicide at the Netaji station on the Blue Line in the afternoon, and normalcy was restored an hour later.
Kolkata Metro To Operate Extra Services On Green Line
In a separate development, the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) has decided to increase the number of services to 202 services (101 UP and 101 Down) on the Green Line (Howrah Maidan-Salt Lake Sector V) from the usual 186 services.
The first train will depart at 6:32 AM from Salt Lake Sector V and at 6:30 AM from Howrah Maidan. The last train on Saturday will depart at 9:47 PM from Salt Lake Sector V and at 9:45 PM from Howrah Maidan.
