Kolkata Metro: The first metro link to the city's airport is set to begin trial runs in December, with the official commissioning of the 7 km stretch between Noapara and Jai Hind (airport) stations scheduled for March 2025. This connection is part of Phase I of the Yellow Line, which will eventually extend from Barasat to Kolkata.
According to a Times Of India report, during a meeting at the airport metro facilities on Tuesday, Metro Railway General Manager P. Uday Kumar Reddy confirmed that the new airport connectivity will begin in March. Officials assured him that they are prepared for trial runs on the 4 km section from Dum Dum Cantonment to Jai Hind.

The 3 km Noapara to Dum Dum Cantonment line successfully completed test runs last year and has received the necessary approval for commercial operations from the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS). The Phase I extension to the airport adds an additional 4 km to the project.
The TOI report quoted a Metro spokesperson stating that, officials updated the GM on the current status of civil, electrical and signalling works for the Yellow Line. Chief Engineer Devinder Kumar confirmed that around 250 fire doors will be installed before the trials commence.
Construction of staircases and the flooring for platforms 2 and 3 at Jai Hind station is now complete, with the installation of a travelator set to begin soon. The GM has also directed that the firefighting system be established promptly to secure fire safety approvals from the state fire services department.
Once the airport is integrated into the metro network, passengers will have access to multiple lines, allowing for convenient travel to and from the airport. Commuters from various parts of the city, including areas along the EM Bypass, will be able to reach the airport easily via metro, reducing reliance on taxis.
