Kolkata Metro Update: Kolkata Metro will see another landmark achievement as authorities have proposed extending the Joka-Esplanade Purple Line by an additional 1.6 km to Eden Gardens. However, for this, the residents may have to suffer for 45 days as KMRCL (Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited) has requested the Metro Railway, Kolkata to suspend train operations on the Green Line.
Speaking to ETNOW, a senior Metro Railway official has confirmed the development. “The request for full closure of Green Line service from 8th February to 24th March has been submitted by KMRCL,” the official said.
Kolkata Metro CBTC Signalling System
The KMRCL will establish the Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) Signalling System for the entire Corridor as a whole and complete.
“The completion of CBTC work means making the entire route as a complete whole unit. At present the rakes operating in two parts are not communicating with each other. For example, rake standing at Sealdah Metro station is blind about the rake standing at Esplanade but fully aware about the rake standing at Phool Bagan Station. Now the process of unifying two separate Corridors into one has to be completed. After hardware installation for the missing link, unification of two Corridors in terms of software, communication etc will commence,” Kolkata Metro says.
Kolkata Metro Green Line
Presently, Green Line Metro, also known as East-West Metro, has two parts -- Green Line-1 (from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah) and Green Line-2 (from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan ). There was a missing link between Sealdah and Esplanade due to the Bowbazar crisis
Will Services On Kolkata Metro Green Line Be Shut?
Speaking to ETNOW.in, the Metro railway official further said that KMRCL’s demand has not been approved so far. “As per our understanding, the demand of forty-five days closer is unreasonable and can be reduced to a great extent by innovative methods and with deployment of the workforce at all twelve stations simultaneously while testing on Platform Screen Doors. Alternatively, screen doors can be bypassed during this period to facilitate door testing and commercial service side by side,” he added.
