Kolkata Metro Update: In a bid to accommodate more commuters, the Metro Railway Kolkata has announced increased train frequency and service hours on Green Line 1 and 2, and Purple Line from Monday (August 11). The decision to augment the services was taken considering the rise in demand on these lines.
Green Line 1: On Green Line 1’s Sealdah-Salt Lake V stretch, two additional services will be added, bringing the total to 108. Out of these, 54 will be Up and 54 Down. Moreover, the train services will start at 6:35 am instead of 6:55 am. The last train will be running until 10:00 pm.
Green Line 2: The Metro Railway Kolkata will run 134 daily services on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade corridor against the current 130. Out of 134 services, 67 each will be Up and Down.
Instead of 7:00 am, the services will start at 6:30 am from Monday. The last train will continue to run until 9:53 pm. While no train will run on Green Line 1 on Sunday, normal services will continue on Green Line 2.
Purple Line: On the Purple Line running between Joka and Majerhat, eight new trains will be added, bringing the total number of services to 80 (40 Up + 40 Down).
The service hours will also be extended. The first train on the Purple Line will run at 6:50 am as compared to the current 7:57 am. The last train will run till 9:14 pm instead of 8:32 pm. The metro services on this corridor will operate from Monday to Friday.
