Kolkata Police have imposed a ban on all forms of gatherings across seven key areas where vote from the Assembly elections are being counted, following dramatic scenes at two counting centres on Tuesday night after the Trinamool Congress alleged suspicious activities during the counting process.

West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal has, however, rejected the Trinamool Congress's allegations.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also visited the vicinity of the strong room at the Shakhawat Memorial counting centre amid the escalating political tension.

Tensions escalated outside Kolkata’s Netaji Indoor Stadium counting centre on Tuesday night, where BJP and Trinamool Congress workers clashed verbally after Trinamool leaders raised concerns over alleged irregularities.

Trinamool leaders Kunal Ghosh and Shashi Panja staged protests outside the counting centre gate, while supporters from both parties shouted slogans, triggering a brief confrontation.
