Kolkata Rape Case: The South Calcutta Law College on Tuesday expelled Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 24-year-old student from the institute. Prime accused Manojit Mishra was hired as a contractual employee at the college just 45 days before he committed the crime on June 25. The trio has been remanded to police custody till July 1.

The expulsion was announced by South Calcutta Law College’s governing body following a meeting chaired by Trinamool Congress MLA Ashok Kumar Deb.

“It has been decided to terminate the services of Mishra, and the two other students will be expelled with immediate effect. The security agency, assigned with the security of the college premises, will also be showcaused,” Deb told reporters, as per news agency PTI.

As per police, the entire incident was premeditated. Three out of the four persons arrested in connection with the case were plotting the episode for several days. Earlier, the nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the incident also found that the three accused - Manojit, Pratim and Zaid had a history of sexually harassing students of the college. The fourth accused is the college's security guard. As per the police officer, the trio would record the incidents on their phones and later use it to blackmail the victims.

"The entire matter was premeditated. The trio had been plotting for several days to carry out this torture on the victim. We have found that the victim was targeted by the prime accused from the very first day she got admission to the college," the police officer said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
