Bengal Weather Update: The Alipore Meteorological Department forecast thunderstorms in eight districts of North Bengal for the coming days. The weather body has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in all northern districts for Wednesday. A yellow alert for heavy rain in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Kalimpong and Alipurduar for Thursday. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain is likely in all districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata till next Monday.

“The low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining north Odisha lay over Jharkhand and neighbourhood at 0830 hrs IST of today, July 1, 2025. The associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. It is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards across Jharkhand during next 24 hours,” IMD stated in its bulletin.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Sri Ganganagar, Rohtak, Kanpur, Varanasi, centre of the low pressure area over Jharkhand and neighbourhood, Digha. Though low pressure area moved over Jharkhand in view of strong monsoon flow, light to moderate rainfall at most places is very likely to continue with isolated heavy rainfall likely in some districts of West Bengal.
South Bengal Weather
July 1: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal with Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Jhargram and Purulia districts of South Bengal. Thunderstorms with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) and lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of South Bengal.
July 2: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of South Bengal. Thunderstorms with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) and lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of South Bengal.
July 3: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal with Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Purulia, West Burdwan, Birbhum and South 24 Parganas districts of South Bengal.
July 4: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal with Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Nadia, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts of South Bengal.
North Bengal Weather
