Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: The prime accused, Sanjay Roy, in the case of rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, reportedly broke down when the magistrate asked him why he was giving consent to a polygraph test. Roy stated that he was not behind the crime and that he was simply ‘being framed’. Meanwhile, Roy’s mother has claimed that her son is ‘harmless’ and was a ‘topper’ during his educational days.

“I have not committed any crime. I am being framed. Maybe the polygraph test will prove that,” he told the magistrate, as quoted by a Times Of India report.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Roy's mother said her son was a topper in school and part of the National Cadet Corps.

"If I had been more strict, then this would not have happened. His father was very strict, but he used to worship him. With my husband's death, everything has gone wrong, my beautiful family is only a memory now," she said, as quoted by an India Today interview.

“I don't know who influenced him to do this... If someone has framed him, then that person will be punished,” she added.

Further explaining her son's behaviour, she said, "He used to take care of me, and even used to cook for me. You can ask the neighbours, he never misbehaved with anyone. If I meet him I will ask, 'Babu why have you done it?' My son was never like this."

The mother further stated that she was unaware that her son had been posted as a civic volunteer at the RG Kar Medical College. She added that her son was addicted to alcohol after his first wife passed away due to cancer.

"Sanjay's first wife was a nice girl. They were happy. Suddenly, she got diagnosed with cancer. Probably, he was depressed after his wife's death and took to drinking," she said.

The Sealdah court in Kolkata on Friday remanded Sanjay Roy, to 14 days of judicial custody in the case of the rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor.

Additionally, a special court in Kolkata had earlier permitted the CBI to perform a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy. However, the results of a polygraph test cannot be used as evidence in court, rather, it serves as a tool to assist investigators in their probe.

The psychoanalytic assessment of the accused revealed that he had a troubling dependency on pornography, exhibited aggressive and primal behaviours and surprisingly, did not express any feelings of guilt or remorse for his actions.
