Tripura Floods: Amid continuous rain and floods, the condition in Tripura has become serious, with the death toll reaching 22 and two others reportedly missing. There has been heavy damage to the infrastructure, crops, and livestock. According to several media reports, 65,400 people have taken shelter in 450 relief camps in the state as their houses have been damaged due to heavy rains.

According to news agency PTI, the region has witnessed some signs of improvement, with rains subsiding on Thursday, leading to a decrease in the water level of major rivers, including Gumti, Khowai, and Feni, which were in spate. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said Tripura has an adequate stock of food items and fuel despite the severe floods in the northeastern state.

CM Manik Saha Visits Shelter Houses

On Friday, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the Bokafa HS school shelter house, where 305 flood-affected individuals have sought refuge following floods in the region. He has also directed the officials to provide essential support and amenities to ensure the comfort and well-being of citizens.

Following his visit, Saha said, "Visited the Bokafa HS school shelter house, where 305 flood-affected individuals have sought refuge after losing everything. I've directed officials to provide essential support & amenities to ensure their comfort & well-being. We're committed to standing by them through this challenging time."

The chief minister also inspected the flood-hit areas in Amarpur and Karbook on Friday after boarding an MI-17 helicopter at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport to head to Gomati District and South Tripura.

"Road infrastructure severely impacted. Helicopters deployed for airlift and road repair efforts are underway. We have ample food packets and 4 helicopters in operation. Our teams are working diligently to provide aid to affected communities," said CM as quoted by news agency ANI.

Rescue Ops Underway

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said that four teams were deployed and engaged in the rescue operations in  South Tripura, Unakoti, Khowai, and West Tripura. In a post on X, the NDRF said that seven additional teams were airlifted to Agartala for FWR operations in Gomati, Sepahijala, and other flood-affected areas.

"4 NDRF teams deployed & engaged in Flood Water Rescue (FWR) in South Tripura, Unakoti, Khowai and West Tripura. Evacuated 936 people and 38 livestock. 7 additional teams airlifted to Agartala for FWR Ops in Gomati, Sepahijala and other flood-affected areas," NDRF posted on X.

Large areas of the region are flooded leaving a significant number of citizens homeless and staying in various relief camps. During the visit, the CM also inspected the relief camps at Khilpara Higher Secondary School and Khilpara Market Shed and reviewed the management of the camps.

According to news agency ANI, the Gomati River is still flowing at 22.30 meters which is above the extreme danger level of 22 meters. The state administration has shifted all the families living on the banks of the Gomati River, Udaipur, Sonamura, and surrounding villages. The state government has requested that all citizens be alert until the water level reaches normal.

The development is being constantly watched by the state administration. Several initiatives have already been taken to rescue the affected people and provide them with relief and healthcare. To take stock of the relief efforts, CM Manik Saha inspected the shelter house at B. R. Ambedkar School in Bordowali on Thursday and assured the people there that the government would provide all necessary support.
