Kolkata Traffic Advisory: The Kolkata Traffic Police has issued a formal notification outlining traffic regulations and advisories for the public in view of the ‘Real-Time Final Dress Rehearsal for the Republic Day Parade’ on January 24 and the ‘Republic Day Parade’ on January 26. The traffic advisory will be in place from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm on January 24. On the Republic Day, the traffic restrictions will be implemented from 5:30 am till the end of the Republic Day Parade on the Red Road.

Traffic Advisory For January 24

Road Closure

The following roads will be closed for vehicular movement on January 24:
  • Hospital Road
  • Lovers Lane
  • Queensway
  • Casuarina Avenue
  • Plassey Gate Road
  • Khidderpore Road
  • Red Road
  • Gosthapal Sarani
  • R R Avenue (Southern flank) between Govt Place East and Govt Place West
  • St Georges Gate Road
  • Strand Road]

Traffic Diversion

  • Vehicular movement from Alipore Road and Belvedere Road via Zeerut Bridge, coming towards DL Khan Road and AJC Bose Road, will be diverted along AJC Bose Road, St George's Gate Road, Strand Road, Gosthapal Sarani / Kshudiram Bose Road, and Government Place (west).
  • Traffic along the Harish Mukherjee Road will be diverted via the Cathedral Road, JL Nehru Road, and Guru Nanak Sarani.
  • All vehicles coming from Howrah towards Red Road will be diverted through Esplanade Row (East), R R Avenue, J L Nehru Road, Mayo Road, Dufferin Road, Outram Road, Kingsway, Strand Road, etc.

Traffic Advisory For January 26

  • Movement of all types of Goods Vehicles shall be restricted along AJC Bose Road towards south from its crossing with Lenin Sarani (Moulali crossing), St Georges Gate Road, Strand Road up to Raja Woodmunt Street, along C R Avenue from G C Avenue towards south, all along J L Nehru Road (both bound) from 05:30 am to 1:00 pm or till the parade is over on January 26.
  • Red Road will be closed for all vehicular movement from 11:00 pm on January 25 till the parade is over on January 26.
  • Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road) will remain closed for all vehicular traffic, except cars with stickers especially issued for the parade, from 5:30 am till the parade is over on January 26.
  • The bus stand on the eastern side of the Strand Road, alongside Band Stand, Eden Gardens, will be shifted to the western side of Strand Road, opposite to the Band Stand, from 5:30 am to 1:00 pm, and on Kiran Sankar Roy Road.
  • All the buses will be diverted along the Kiran Sankar Roy Road for up and Down journeys via BBD Bag to Esplanade and JL Nehru Road.
Parking will be prohibited on the following roads from 5:30 am till the Republic Day parade is over:
  • R R Avenue
  • Government Place West between R R Avenue and Esplanade Row West
  • Chowringhee Road
  • J L Nehru Road
  • Cathedral Road
  • On Strand Road and St George's Gate Road between Napier Road & Kingsway
  • Queens' Way
  • Outram Road
  • Eastern part of Strand Road between Kingsway and Auckland Road

Passenger Advisory

The Kolkata police have advised passengers to check the traffic advisory before heading out on both days to avoid any inconvenience.
