Kolkata Rain: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a weather forecast indicating rain in Kolkata during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, lasting until October 9. Some areas may experience scattered showers until October 13.
According to the Met office, light to moderate rain is expected across south Bengal during the festive period. While the rain and thundershowers may be sporadic, a persistent cloud cover will remain over Kolkata and neighbouring districts throughout the festivities, as noted by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).
From October 6 to 9, the weather office predicts light to moderate rain and thundershowers across many districts. Following this, from October 10 to 13, a few places in all districts may still see light rain and thundershowers.
North Bengal Districts Rain Forecast
In north Bengal, light to moderate rain, along with gusty winds and thunderstorms, is expected from Sunday to Wednesday. Specific areas like Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Dakshin Dinajpur are likely to experience rain and thunderstorms on Saturday, while Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri will see similar weather on Monday. Additionally, heavy rainfall could lead to landslides in the hilly regions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, according to the IMD.
The forecast suggests that an upper air circulation forming over southeast Bangladesh, combined with a trough, will create a low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal by Friday. This system is likely to bring light to moderate showers to most parts of south Bengal over the next couple of days.

Weather scientist HR Biswas from RMC stated that while some areas may receive heavier rainfall, most districts, including Kolkata, can expect intermittent drizzles and occasional heavy spells. The rain intensity in Kolkata may ease from Saturday, but light showers are likely to continue.
As Durga Puja approaches, the weather in Kolkata is expected to remain cloudy with a few spells of rain in various areas until October 13.
