Kolkata Weather Forecast

The weather body predicts a temperature drop towards the end of the week. On Sunday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 16.2 degrees Celsius, which is expected to remain around 16 degrees Celsius-17 degrees Celsius until Tuesday. However, the mercury is predicted to start falling from January 8, possibly reaching the normal minimum temperature of 14 degrees Celsius for this time of year, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.

Weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay explained that several factors contribute to fog formation during winter. "Kolkata may experience moderate to dense fog on Monday. However, this fog may not persist once the temperature begins to drop," he said. He attributed the current fog conditions to the incursion of moisture from the sea, slow winds, and a stable atmosphere. However, the situation may change once the wind pattern shifts and northwesterly winds begin flowing into Gangetic Bengal, as per a TOI report.

The city remained partly cloudy on Saturday, with the minimum temperature rising to 14.4 degrees Celsius. The Met office also forecast that temperatures would not fall below 15 degrees Celsius until at least January 7. A western disturbance (WD) currently affecting the eastern and south Bengal plains is blocking the flow of northwesterly winds.
