Kolkata Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday stated that multiple districts of South and North Bengal are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in the upcoming few days. It stated that along with rain, these districts are also likely to witness gusty winds and thunderstorms. While the temperature is likely to drop by two to four degrees Celsius, it is again likely to surge after May 18. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.
The weather department stated that while a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the south Andaman Sea, it clarified that the situation is not likely to intensify into a cyclone. In an advisory, the weather department stated that the IMD has not mentioned anything about a cyclone, adding that people should not spread misinformation. “IMD has never mentioned any cyclone...IMD in its bulletin and briefing, mentioned a cyclonic circulation only over the Andaman Sea,” the advisory stated.

“Monsoon has also set foot in the region. The system has played a part in that. There is still nothing to suggest that it will turn into anything,” it added. The weather department stated that some districts of North and South Bengal, including the capital city Kolkata, are likely to receive rainfall in the upcoming few days. While the maximum temperature is likely to be calculated at 33 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature will remain around 21 degrees Celsius.
“Enhanced thunderstorms with heavy rainfall activity are likely over some districts of north Bengal, and thunderstorms with gusty winds activity are likely over some districts of south Bengal,” the bulletin from the weather department stated. Apart from this, light to heavy rainfall is also expected in Northeast states and multiple western and southern states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu, for the next few days.
