Kolkata Weather: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert and forecast heavy rain, accompanied by gusty winds for Kolkata and multiple South Bengal districts over the next two days. As per the Alipore Meteorological Department, moderate rainfall is expected in phases across the region. Wind speeds in Kolkata, East Medinipur, and South 24 Parganas are expected to range between 30-40 kmph. While the current weather pattern is likely to continue through the weekend, meteorologists anticipate a shift starting Monday. The weather department has warned that the spell of rain could bring temporary disruptions over the weekend.

West Bengal Weather

IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms in Kolkata and surrounding areas over the next two days. While the showers may bring temporary relief from the rising temperatures, they are also likely to cause localised waterlogging and travel delays. On February 22, Kolkata’s minimum temperature is expected to be 19 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 29 degrees Celsius. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph), are expected in East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Jhargram, West Midnapore, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, and Nadia.

A similar pattern is predicted for February 23, with the mercury fluctuating between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius. On February 24, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas are predicted to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph), while lighter rain is expected in other South Bengal districts.

West Bengal Weather: Rain Activity To Slow Down After Sunday

As per the latest reports, rainfall activity will gradually subside by February 24, with skies expected to clear up. South Bengal districts may witness a slight dip in temperature, but overall, dry conditions are expected to prevail across the region till the end of February. However, occasional spells of cloudy weather may continue in some areas.

The weather fluctuations come as a surprise to many residents, as February is typically a dry month for West Bengal. With rain showers and thunderstorms expected over the weekend, commuters and weekend travellers are advised to plan accordingly.
