Kolkata's Indian Museum was temporarily shut for several hours after it recieved a bomb threat received via email. According to authorities, a group 'Terrorizer's 111' called regarding a bomb threat at the Indian Museum today (January 5).

Following the receipt of the threat, a bomb squad reached the location and visitors' entry to the museum was restricted for a few hours, said Kolkata Police. The squad assessed and ensured the safety of the area.

As per the latest information available, a police contingent has cordoned off the entire museum premises and the sleuths of the bomb squad were searching every room within the premises to detect the existence of any explosive item. The employees of the museum and the visitors were brought out of the premises before the bomb squad sleuths went in.

"Kolkata Police received a mail from a group called 'Terrorizer's 111' regarding a bomb threat at the Indian Museum. Bomb squad reached the location & visitors' entry to the museum has been restricted for the next few hours," said Kolkata Police.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and the museum is expected to resume normal operations after security clearance is obtained.

In August 2022 a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan posted in security duty for the museum fired indiscriminately from his service AK-47 rifle killing one of his colleagues in the force and leaving another injured. He was later neutralized following an hour of an operation by a joint team of Kolkata Police's combat force and CISF.

This comes a few days after the Israel embassy blast in Delhi. Delhi police found a letter addressed to the Israeli ambassador near the Israel Embassy on Tuesday evening in connection with the 'blast' call. "

A letter has been written in English to the Israeli Embassy in which threatening words are used. After the blast near embassy, an investigation was launched into the alleged explosion. A team of NIA officials, along with the Delhi Special Cell and Dog Squad, reached the Israeli Embassy and initiated a probe into the alleged 'blast' call incident.
