Konkan Expressway Updates: In a big boost to the infrastructure of Maharashtra, the Konkan Expressway, once operational, will significantly cut the travel time between Mumbai and Goa to just 6 hours. The Konkan Expressway will enhance connectivity between the two most sought-tourist destinations. The total length of the Konkan Expressway is 498 kilometres, out of which 376 kilometres spans along the Konkan coastline, with an additional 120 km of road.
The Konkan Expressway consists of 41 tunnels and 21 bridges. Konkan Expressway will reduce the travel time between Goa and Mumbai from 12 hours to just 6 hours. This will provide commuters with a faster and efficient route to reach their destinations. Furthermore, the expressway will improve connectivity and boost tourism in the region. The Konkan expressway will traverse several villages across three major districts. These districts include Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.

Konkan Expressway Update
At present, 95 per cent of the work has been completed. The construction of the expressway began in 2011 and faced many obstructions. But, the project is nearing completion now and is expected to operate by June 2025.
Konkan Expressway Routes
Mangaon, Panvel, Pen, Nagothane, Kolad, Indapur, Mahad, Poladpur, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Sangaeshwar are key towns and cities in Maharashtra that the route will pass through. Whereas Goa, Mapusa, Pernem, Margao, Panjim, Cuncolim, Canacona are some of the main cities.
An interesting fact about the Konkan expressway is that the route has been strategically designed to navigate the difficult terrain of the Konkan region. The terrain includes hills, rivers and dense forests, which will be navigated by tunnels, elevated road sections and bridges.
This expressway will boost tourism, drive employment opportunities and contribute to the local economy.
