In a tragic incident, a JEE aspirant from Rajasthan's Bundi died by suicide at his grandfather's house in the Jawahar Nagar police station area in Kota on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Manan Sharma, was a Class 12 student and the incident took place just four days before his examination. This is the fourth case of suicide reported this month.
Before taking the extreme step, 17-year-old Manan studied with his brother until late Friday night. The incident came to light the next morning when Manan did not pick up repeated calls. Concerned about this, his cousin, who was sleeping in a nearby room, checked on him and found him hanging from a noose tied to the window angle.
Manan's family declined a post-mortem, and his maternal uncle, Mahavir Jain, revealed that his eyes were donated with his parents' consent. Manan, who had been studying in Kota for about three years, was described as a brilliant student. He was the only child of his parents, and his father, Manish Jain, worked as a businessman.
The reason behind Manan's decision to take the extreme step remains unknown. Earlier on Friday, another JEE student in Kota died by hanging himself from a fan.
On January 8, 19-year-old Abhishek Lodha, a resident of Guna, Madhya Pradesh, died by suicide in Kota's Vigyan Nagar area by hanging himself from a ceiling fan. He had been preparing for JEE Advanced while living in the city.
A day earlier, on January 7, Neeraj Jat, a resident of Haryana's Mahendragarh, ended his life in a similar manner in his hostel room in Kota's Jawahar Nagar area. Neeraj had been preparing for the exam in Kota for the past two years.
