Rajasthan: A man suspected of attempting a break-in was trapped inside the exhaust fan shaft of a residential kitchen in Pratap Nagar, Kota and later taken into police custody. The incident occurred at the home of Subhash Kumar Rawat while he was away traveling to Khatu Shyam on January 3.

According to reports, Rawat’s wife returned to the house in the early hours of January 4 and unlocked the main gate around 1 am. The kitchen became visible due to the headlights of a scooter parked outside, when the family noticed a man stuck halfway through the kitchen’s exhaust fan shaft, with part of his body inside the house and the rest outside. Police said the accused had attempted to enter the property for theft but became lodged in the narrow opening.

Rescue And Investigation Underway

Local residents were alerted by the noise, while one accomplice reportedly fled the scene. A video of the man trapped circulated widely on social media. Police later arrived, rescued the suspect, and took him into custody for questioning. 

Authorities are investigating the identity of the accomplice and whether the accused is linked to other thefts in the area. The suspect is said to have arrived in a car fitted with a police sticker, allegedly to avoid raising suspicion.

In a separate incident, a man from Andhra Pradesh, Vadde Katamaiah, was arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly stealing cash from ATMs using techniques he learned during a cybercrime training course. The Miyapur police, under the Cyberabad Commissionerate, caught him red-handed late Sunday night after a Dial 100 call alerted them to the theft. Katamaiah reportedly studied the technical features of certain ATMs and used a device to trap cash, which he later retrieved when customers assumed the transaction had failed.

Police said Katamaiah came to Hyderabad for cybercrime-related training and applied his knowledge to commit the thefts. Another suspect, Ramanjaneyulu, remains at large, and police teams are searching for him. Investigations are also ongoing to determine if Katamaiah is linked to similar ATM thefts elsewhere.
