Chinnigam Encounter: Five terrorists have been reportedly killed by the security forces in an encounter at the Frisal Chinnigam area in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday. This came hours after an Indian army soldier died in the line of duty in another gunfight with the terrorists in Kulgam's Modergam village. The Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and gunfight has erupted, said the Kashmir Zone Police.
"Contact established at Frisal Chinnigam area in Kulgam district. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police posted on X (formerly Twitter).
According to Dainik Jagran, Hizbul Mujahideen's division commander Farooq Nalli has reportedly been killed. Nalli, a terror mastermind, was on the radar of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police for the last few years.

The gunfight erupted around 2 pm at Chinnigam, which is adjacent to Yaripora. Indian Army and other security forces launched an intelligence-based operation after they received inputs about the presence of the dreaded terrorist and Hizbul divisional commander Farooq Nalli in a house. Following the input, all the roads leading to the village were blocked and a cordon was laid down.
Terrorists Opened Fire At Security Personnel
Security Personnel started combing the house in Chinnigam after a total blockade. The residents of the village were also evacuated safely. However, as soon as the army soldiers reached a house located near an orchard, they were met with heavy gunfire.
After retaliating with initial firing, security officials asked the terrorists to surrender in front of the forces, however, their call was refused. Following a gunfight, four terrors were neutralised till 6 pm. However, one or more are reportedly firing from inside the house, officials said.
Four Terrorists Killed, One Reportedly Trapped
According to police officials, four terrorists have been killed. One more terrorist is trapped at the encounter site, and efforts are underway to capture him. The identities of the killed terrorists have not been immediately confirmed, but one of them could be Farooq Nalli. IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi stated that the security forces achieved a major success today in Chinigam. The bodies of four terrorists are lying at the encounter site.
