Kunal Kamra Controversy: Online ticketing platform BookMyShow struck Kunal Kamra with a severe blow on Saturday when it deleted all of the stand-up comedian's content and took him out of its list of performers. Reacting to the same, Kunal Kamra took to his X handle and asked BookMyShow to confirm if he can still list his shows on their platform.

The comedian wrote, "Hello @bookmyshow can you please confirm if I have your platform to list my shows if not it’s fine. I understand…"

The move by the online ticketing platform comes a day after Rahool N Kanal, a youth leader with the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena, wrote to BookMyShow asking the firm not to provide Kamra a platform after he made contentious comments about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Kanal requested that the website not facilitate the sale of tickets for Kamra's upcoming show, stating that "continuing to facilitate ticket sales for his events could be perceived as an endorsement of his divisive rhetoric, which may have serious repercussions for public sentiment and order in the city."

"Such remarks not only hurt the sentiments of public at large but also have the potential to incite public mischief and disrupt social harmony. By providing a platform for his performances, BookMyShow inadvertently lends credibility and reach to an individual whose actions threaten public order, particularly in a vibrant and diverse city like Mumbai, where your company is headquartered," Kanal wrote further in his letter to the online ticketing platform, which was shared on X.

Kanal praised BookMyShow for deleting any information associated with Kamra shortly after the ticketing platform decided to remove the artist from its history list.

Kamra received a third summons from Mumbai Police on Tuesday in relation to a formal complaint alleging defamation and statements that constituted public nuisance. In an attempt to determine if the comedian would come before them, the Mumbai Police also paid a visit to his home on Monday.

After getting at least 500 death threats via phone, Kamra, a Tamil Nadu native, fled the controversy and went back to his home state. After that, he petitioned the Madras High Court, where he was granted temporary protection from the Mumbai Police's arrest.
