The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted permission to Lakhimpur Kheri violence-accused Ashish Mishra to visit Delhi to care for his ailing mother who is admitted to a hospital in the national capital and get medical treatment for his daughter. The apex court has directed Ashish, who is the son of Union Mishra Ajay Mishra Teni, to refrain from participating in public functions and addressing the media in connection with the case.

A bench comprising justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta modified its earlier order wherein it had granted interim bail to Ashish with the condition that he not Delhi. On January 25, the top court granted interim bail for eight weeks to Ashish Mishra and imposed various conditions.

SC had directed Ashish Mishra that during the period of his interim bail of eight weeks, he shall not stay in the State of Uttar Pradesh or in NCT of Delhi. Later the bail was extended from time to time. He had approached top court after his bail plea was rejected by the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on July 26, 2022.

Mishra is being tried for murder in connection with the incident that occurred on October 3, 2021 wherein eight people, including four farmers, were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri. He allegedly mauled farmers with his car who were participating in the nationwide farmers' protests that lasted from 2020 through 2021. He was arrested on October 9 and granted bail in February 2022.
