Earlier on September 11, the court had reserved its order on the charge in land for the job. Maninder Singh, Lalu Yadav's senior counsel, argued that the whole case was politically motivated to defame the RJD leader. He further stated that there were no evidences to suggest that the candidates were given the jobs in exchange of land.

On October 7, the Delhi court had granted bail to Lalu Yadav and his sons on a bond of Rs 1 lakh each in connection with the land-for-job scam. Special Judge Vishal Gogne granted bail to the three and noted that they were not arrested during investigation of the case. The court further directed all three accused to surrender their passports. Lalu Yadav's daughter and party MP Misa Bharti was also present with them in the court.
