Lenskart Grooming Policy Row: Lenskart finds itself entangled in a fresh controversy over its alleged grooming policy for employees, permitting hijabs and turbans while not allowing bindis or tilak.

The controversy started after a document titled "Lenskart Staff Uniform and Grooming Guide" surfaced online. Lenskart founder Peyush Bansal responded to the viral document, calling it "inaccurate", which didn't reflect the company's "present guidelines."

He acknowledged it to be a lapse in 'language or policy.'

He clarified that Lenskart has revised its grooming policy several times over the years, and that the purported version making rounds on social media was outdated.

In a post on X, he said, "Our policy has no restrictions on any form of religious expression, including bindi and tilak, and we continue to review our guidelines regularly."

"We as a company continue to learn and build. Any lapses in our language or policies have and will continue to be addressed," he wrote, adding, "We apologise for the confusion and concern this situation has caused."

In another post, Bansal further added that the issue was already resolved internally on February 17, before the controversy started online. Bansal said that it was an outdated internal training document and is not an HR policy.

"That said, it contained an incorrect line about bindi/tilak that should never have been written and does not reflect our values or actual practice. When we discovered this on February 17, well before this became a public conversation, we immediately removed it," Bansal wrote.

"Let me be absolutely clear. Lenskart does not and will never restrict any form of respectful religious expression. This includes bindi, tilak, or any such symbols of faith," he added.
