The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested one Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and five of his associates, including two women and a juvenile in the Baramulla district. Police officials said that the case came to light after a missing complaint was filed in Baramulla. Subsequent investigation into the matter led to the arrest of the LeT terrorist.
According to SSP Baramulla, Amod Nagpure, the operation unfolded following information received on September 21 regarding the disappearance of an individual named Yaseen Ahmad Shah from his home in Janbazpora, Baramulla. It was suspected that he had joined the banned terror organisation LeT/TRF. Subsequently, a case was registered, and investigations commenced.
Based on human and technical intelligence, a collaborative effort involving Baramulla Police, the Army and CAPF led to the arrest of the aforementioned terrorist on September 22, 2023, during a vehicle checkpoint search at Tapper Pattan. During this arrest, incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including a pistol, a magazine and eight live rounds, were seized from the terrorist.
Further interrogation of the arrested terrorist revealed the identity of his associate, Parvaiz Ahmad Shah of Takiya Wagoora. A raid on Shah's residence resulted in the discovery of two hand grenades. The arrested individuals also disclosed the identities of their associates, leading to the recovery of two more hand grenades.
Investigations revealed that the LeT terrorist and his five associates were operating under the guidance of handlers based in Pakistan. They were allegedly planning to recruit more terrorists and execute terrorist activities in Baramulla and nearby areas.
Consequently, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act at Police Station Baramulla and the investigation is underway.
