Lok Sabha Election 2024: The elections for the 18th Lok Sabha are going to be held in the country soon, the dates for which are going to be announced by the Election Commission soon. With the announcement, a Model Code of Conduct will be implemented in the country, due to which many restrictions will also be imposed.

In order to conduct transparent and fair elections in the country without any hindrance, the Election Commission has set some rules and standards in the form of a model code of conduct, which all political parties and candidates have to compulsorily follow. Under this, the Election Commission has set rules and regulations for political parties, candidates, and voters, ranging from general conduct to meetings, processions, voting, polling booths, observers, and manifestos.
 

For political parties and leaders...

- Do not indulge in activities that promote differences or hatred between different castes and communities.

- Criticize policies and actions; do not comment on the personal lives of any party, leader, or worker. Do not appeal to cast your vote by using the sentiments of any caste or sect.

- Temple, mosque or any other place of worship should not be used for election campaigning.

- Bribing voters, threatening them, and spreading propaganda within a distance of 100 meters from the polling station will be considered criminal activity.

- A ban on election campaigning and public meetings comes into effect 48 hours before voting.

- Protests and dharnas should not be held in front of the house of a political party or any candidate.

- Leaders cannot allow their supporters to put up flags, hang banners, paste information, and write slogans on any person's land, building, premises, walls, etc. without his permission.

- Political parties and candidates should ensure that their supporters do not create obstruction or attempt to disrupt meetings or processions of other parties.

- No party should take out a procession near those places where meetings of other parties are going on. Posters put up by one party should not be removed by workers of the other party.

For political meetings/rallies

- Police officers should be given prior information about the place and location of all the rallies.

- Political parties and leaders should ensure in advance that there are no restrictions already in place at the place where they are going to hold the meeting.

- Also take permission in advance for the use of loudspeaker in the meeting.

- The organizers of the meeting should take help of the police to avoid any unexpected incidents.

What are the rules for the procession?

- Before the procession, advance information about its starting time, route, ending time, and place will have to be given to the police.

- Find out beforehand whether there are any restrictions in the area where you are taking out the procession.

- Manage the procession in such a way that traffic is not affected.

- If more than one political party proposes to hold a procession on the same day and on the same route, then discuss the timing in advance.

- The procession should be taken out from the right side of the road.

- Do not carry weapons or other harmful materials during the procession.

- The instructions and advice of the police on duty should be strictly followed.

There are rules for the ruling party

- Ministers should not campaign during official visits.

- Do not use government planes and vehicles for the benefit of the party.

- Do not use government machinery and employees in the interest of the party.

- Do not show the monopoly of the ruling party on the helipad.

- Do not promote the party with government funds.

- People other than central or state government ministers, candidates, voters, or agents should not enter the polling booth.
