Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The Congress party on Monday approached the election commission with two complaints against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the country's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha election. In its complaint against PM Modi, the Congress has referenced the prime minister's terming of its poll manifesto an 'imprint' of the Muslim League, the outfit that was instrumental in the formation of Pakistan.

"The Congress manifesto completely bears the imprint of the Muslim League and whatever part of it is left is completely dominated by the leftists," PM Modi had said while addressing election rallies in Saharanpur and Ajmer last week.

The complaints were handed over to the EC by a delegation of Congress leaders, party general secretary Jairam Ramesh informed. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he said, "My colleagues [Salman Khurshid], [Mukul Wasnik], [Pawan Khera] and [Gurdeep Sappal] have just met with the Election Commission and presented and argued 6 complaints, including 2 against the PM himself."

The senior Congress leader added, "This is the time for the Election Commission to demonstrate its independence by ensuring a level playing field for all parties." Ramesh further said, "We live in hope that the Hon’ble Commission will uphold its Constitutional mandate. For our part, we will continue to pursue all avenues, political and legal, to expose this regime."
