Punjab Police busted a gang of three men who were printing and circulating fake notes of 100 and 200 rupees in Ludhiana. Police said they seized fake notes worth Rs 5.1 lakh from the accused. They have arrested two members of the gang and taken the duo on a two-day remand while they are looking for their accomplice who is currently absconding.

The arrested individuals were identified as Sohan Singh alias Soni and Mandeep Singh alias Manu, both residents of Jagraon. They were caught red-handed from a car parked in BRS Nagar, where they had come to deal in fake notes. Police received a tip-off about their activities following which they raided the spot and arrested both accused.

During investigation, police found that the third accused, Bakhtaur Singh, a resident of Lohara village in Moga was the mastermind behind the gang’s illicit activities. Police stated Bakhtpur Singh used to print the fake notes at his house, where he lived alone, using a printer and paper. He had learned the technique from YouTube videos and had been doing this for the last one month.

Sohan Singh worked as a driver and a property dealer, while Mandeep Singh worked as a photographer and a homoeopathy medicine seller. They used to come to Ludhiana daily by train from Jagraon after which they knew each other. They joined hands with Bakhtaur Singh to print counterfeit notes in an attempt to make quick money.

The gang did not have any confirmed buyers for the notes, so they used to exchange fake notes with small shopkeepers and vegetable vendors.

Additional District Commissioner of Police Sameer Verma said that the police are investigating the case and efforts are underway to nab Bakhtaur Singh. Police also launched an investigation to locate the gang’s sources of paper and printer.
