Punjab: Two residents of Ludhiana have fallen victim to a series of online frauds, losing a total of Rs 82 lakh, as per reports. These incidents led to cases being filed at the city's Cyber Crime and Division Number 8 Police Stations.

In one of the cases, Baljit Singh from Urban Estate reported that he was promised substantial and rapid profits through online investments. Trusting the fraudsters, he transferred Rs 22.18 lakh to multiple bank accounts. When the accused stopped responding to his calls, Singh filed a complaint with the authorities in November of the previous year. The case was registered under Section 318 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to Cyber Crime SHO Inspector Jatinder Singh.

In a second incident, Amit Gupta, a resident of Club Road, was similarly duped. The accused convinced Gupta to invest Rs 60 lakh in online trading by promising significant returns. However, once the money was transferred to various bank accounts, the fraudsters ceased all communication. A case has been registered against 13 individuals under Sections 420 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as under the Information and Technology Act.

These incidents highlight the growing concern of online fraud in Ludhiana, with authorities urging residents to exercise caution when engaging in online transactions.
