Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said that the products manufactured in the state should contain labeling in the Kannada language. While speaking on the occasion of the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations, Siddaramaiah emphasised that the state government will do everything to ensure that the language and cultural values of Karnataka are valued.
“The goods and products that are being manufactured in Karnataka in the private and government sector currently carry only the English language on the packaging. Going forward, the packaging must also carry the names of the products in Kannada as well, and we will make efforts toward this goal,” Siddaramaiah said.
“We will create an atmosphere of Kannada in Karnataka where people learn the language and use it on a daily basis. This will be the honour that we accord to the language,” he added. The Chief Minister further warned the people for mocking Kannada language on several social media platforms and referred to them as "traitors." “Of late, there has been a tendency to humiliate Kannada and Kannadigas on social media. They are traitors, and the government will take strict action against them,” he said.
"Karnataka being neglected"
Siddaramaiah also criticised the central government for 'neglecting' Karnataka in tax devolution. “We pay over Rs 4 lakh crore as tax but only get back Rs 55,000-60,000 crore,” he said. The chief minister added that the state was getting merely 14–15 paisa from the central government for each rupee paid. “We are part of the federal system, but that doesn’t mean we will suffer injustice. Just because a cow is milking, you cannot rob it of all the milk. Some should be left for the calf too,” Siddaramaiah stated.

"Kannadigas Thriving"
DK Shivkumar, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, said that Kannada culture is thriving wherever Kannadigas have gone. “Kannada is developing at lightning speed. Youths and students have added great strength to the country. You are the country’s treasure. The entire world is looking at you. Just the way you take care of your parents, you must also strive to ensure that this land, language, and culture are taken care of,” Shivkumar said.
