The Madhya Pradesh Police arrested three of the six prime accused who allegedly assaulted two young army officers and their women friends in the wee hours of Wednesday in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district when they were out on a picnic. According to news agency PTI, the medical examination revealed that one of the women was raped.
The two army officers, both aged 23 and 24, who are undergoing the Young Officers (YO) course at the Infantry School in Mhow cantonment town, took a break from their training and went for a picnic on Tuesday along with two female friends, Badgonda police station in-charge Lokendra Singh Hirore said.
According to Hirore, some unidentified miscreants arrived near the picnic spot on Mhow-Mandleshwar road and started beating up one of the officers sitting in a car and also the women.
The second officer, away from the vehicle then, successfully alerted his seniors about the attack. After receiving the information, the police promptly arrived at the scene, following which the miscreants fled, news agency PTI reported citing Badgonda police station in-charge Hirore.
Following the complaint, the police registered a case under sections 70 (gang rape), 310-2 (dacoity), 308-2 (extortion) and 115-2 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bhaunder sections of the Arms Act.
The incident took place near the popular tourist spot Jam Gate, nearly 30 km from the Mhow military cantonment, where a group of armed assailants took an Army officer and his friend hostage in a car at gunpoint and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 from their friends who were on a nearby hilltop.
Badgonda police station in-charge Lokendra Singh Hirore confirmed that following the complaint, six out of seven suspects have been identified in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, two of the assailants identified as 27-year-old Anil Baror and 23-year-old Pawan Bansunia were produced before a local court which remanded them in police custody for five days. On Thursday night, the police arrested the third Ritesh Bhabhar aged 25, who was apprehended on Thursday night. Bhabhar is accused of threatening the women with a pistol, while the other two are accused of carrying sticks.
