Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, Usha Thakur, who represents Mhow in Indore district, has demanded strict punishment for those involved in cases of 'love jihad' in the state. The former state culture minister said that “criminals” indulging in the alleged love jihad cases should have their “eyes gouged out and hands chopped off.” Earlier this month, the Madhya Pradesh Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged cases of love jihad in the state.
“Sharia, the traditional Islamic law, has a provision for such harsh punishments for such criminals, ” she told news agency PTI in Indore on Thursday.
"If these people are openly violating the anti-love jihad law, then according to Sharia, their eyes should be gouged out and their hands should be chopped off. I think there is a provision for such strict punishment in Sharia for thieves, characterless people and criminals who spoil the lives of other people," the BJP MLA said.
"If such evil people are caught (by the police), they will not be spared. Their houses, property, and everything will be confiscated, and they will roam the road as beggars. Only then will they stop doing such demonic acts," she added further.
Earlier in May, Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister Vishwas Sarang had said that those involved in ‘love jihad' should be shot dead publicly. His comment came a day after a suspect in a rape-and-blackmail case, Farhan Khan, suffered a bullet injury in the leg while trying tto snatch a pistol from a police officer in a bid to escape from custody.
"Those who are involved in bad deeds like love jihad and raping minor girls don't have the right to live in this country or the state. They are a burden on this land," he said, as quoted by a TOI report
