Madhya Pradesh News: A man was arrested for sexually assaulting the corpse of a woman inside a government-run morgue in Burhanpur district, Madhya Pradesh. The disturbing act, which took place in April this year, came to light only recently after CCTV footage of the crime was recovered.

According to police, the accused has been identified as 25-year-old Nilesh Bhilala, a resident of Tangiyapat village in the Bhauraghat area. The incident occurred on April 18, 2024, at the Khaknar Community Health Centre’s morgue, where the woman’s body was kept for post-mortem examination.

CCTV Footage Reveals Heinous Act

The footage showed Bhilala entering the morgue late at night and dragging the woman’s body from the stretcher to a corner, away from the camera’s view. He then allegedly committed the assault before placing the body back near the stretcher and leaving the premises. The act went unnoticed for months until hospital staff reviewed the CCTV recordings in October.

A medical officer, Dr Adiya Dawar, filed a complaint with the Khaknar police after discovering the footage. The video, which later surfaced on social media platform X, sparked outrage and raised questions about security measures at government health facilities.

Police Arrest And Investigation

Following the complaint, police arrested Bhilala and produced him in court. He has been remanded to judicial custody. Khaknar police station in-charge, Abhishek Jadhav, confirmed the arrest and said investigations are ongoing to determine whether further charges should be added.

Another officer stated that an internal inquiry has been launched to find out how the accused gained access to the morgue. Authorities have assured strict action and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
