Indore and Surat clinched the top spot while Navi Mumbai was ranked second among the cleanest Indian cities at the Swachh Survekshan Award 2023. The central government's awards also judged the best-performing state in terms of cleanliness, where Maharashtra was adjudged first followed by Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. 

Madhya Pradesh’s Indore bagged the title for the cleanest Indian city for the seventh time in a row, which it shared this time with Gujarat’s Surat. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the Swachh Survekshan Award 2023 ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi on Thursday.  

The sanitation workers in Indore started celebrations in the Municipal Corporation office soon after their city was declared the cleanest city in the country. An LED screen was also placed at the premises of the Indore Municipal Corporation office to watch the live telecast of this award ceremony.

CM Mohan Yadav said Indore is in the ''seventh heaven of cleanliness''. He stated that this was achievable because of the people of Indore as cleanliness has not only become their habit, but also the cleanliness is in their thinking now.  

"Our Indore is on the seventh heaven of cleanliness. On this biggest achievement of cleanliness, I congratulate all the people of the state and the entire team engaged in cleanliness work. I appeal that your passion for cleanliness should never diminish," the CM said.

CM Mohan Yadav also extended congratulations on the occasion and appealed to the people that their passion for cleanliness should never diminish. He added that Madhya Pradesh is always committed to fulfilling the pledge taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to realise Mahatma Gandhi's dream of a clean India.
