Maharashtra: A teacher in Maharashtra's Akola district has been arrested for molesting six girl students and showing them obscene videos, police said. This incident comes just a day after two four-year-old girls were sexually assaulted at an English medium school by a cleaning staff in Badlapur in Thane.
The accused, identified as Pramod Manohar Sardar, who taught at the Zilla Parishad School in Kazikhed village, was taken into custody on Tuesday evening.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Bachchan Singh, leading the investigation, confirmed the arrest and the charges against Sardar.
"We received a complaint regarding the molestation of six schoolgirls by their teacher, Pramod Manohar Sardar. He was immediately arrested, and the statements of the victimized girls have been recorded," said SP Bachchan Singh.
"There was a program in the school yesterday...After the program was over the teacher went to meet the students of class 7-8. Some 4-5 girls said that they were harassed, then we came to know about this, until then we were not aware of any such thing," said the principal of the school, Ravindra Samdur, as quoted by news agency ANI.
A case has been registered against Sardar under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Badlapur Sex Abuse Case
Taking suo moto cognisance of the alleged sexual abuse of the two minor girls in Maharashtra's Badlapur, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) sought a detailed report of the incident within two weeks from the state authorities. The detailed report will include the reason behind the delay in the registration of an FIR, its status, and the health of the victim girls, an official statement by NHRC stated.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) will send a probe team to investigate the heinous crime, chairperson Priyank Kanoongo announced on Tuesday evening. The NCPCR Chairperson alleged that the said school's attitude in this case was insensitive as they tried to suppress the case and even the concerned police station did not register an FIR in due time.

Massive protests erupted in the town over the incident, with protestors launching a 'Rail Roko' agitation on Tuesday. As the protestors did not budge, police resorted to light lathi charges on the demonstrators, resulting in stone pelting by the protestors.
