Maharashtra: A 27-year-old government employee was critically injured after being brutally assaulted with a sickle by a man in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The accused has been identified as Amol Mule, who is a peon in the court and fled the scene immediately after the assault. Mumbai Police have started a search operation and set up blockades to find him.

The incident took place at approximately 6:15 PM on Friday. The victim has been identified as Snehal Sawant, who is employed in the Revenue Department at the Palghar District Collectorate.

According to police reports, Sawant was walking down the street when Mule approached her from behind and launched a sudden, violent assault. He struck her roughly eight times, targeting her neck, back, shoulders, and waist.

A CCTV camera captured the harrowing ordeal, showing the accused continuing to strike the victim even after she collapsed to the ground. After the attack, the attacker fled the scene, leaving his bag and weapon behind at the scene before fleeing on foot.

A passerby saw the injured woman and rushed to help, quickly drawing a crowd of bystanders. Sawant was initially rushed to a local rural hospital, but as her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to another hospital for further treatment. She remains in critical condition.

Police said the motive behind the attack is not yet clear, and further investigation is underway. Authorities have launched a search operation and are trying to locate the accused, who has been absconding since the incident.
