Nashik: Flood-like situation erupted in Maharashtra's Nashik after heavy rains lashed parts of the state on Sunday. The district administration has issued an alert and asked the residents to stay vigilant as Godavari breached the safe limits and now flowing over the danger mark. Authorities have also asked those living near the river banks and low-lying areas to relocate to safer places.
Videos shared by news agency ANI on the social media website 'X' showed the Godavari flowing at its maximum capacity. The sudden overflow was reportedly caused after authorities released 4,000 cusecs of water from Gangapur dam downstream. The dam, which supplies water to the entire city, witnessed a high water level due to continuous rainfall. Nashik district has so far received 476.1 mm of rainfall since June, officials said.
Alert has been sounded for two villages - Saikheda and Chandroi - in Nashik's Niphad taluka. Several small temples at Ramkund and Goda Ghat were submerged in the river water earlier on Sunday. The water level reportedly reached at waist level of the iconic Dutondya Maruti idol, ABP news reported.
