According to a Gangapur police official, the victim was returning with his friend in a mini pick-up truck after delivering a consignment. The vehicle had stalled at a sharp turn due to a technical failure, leading to a near-collision with a passing van.

According to police accounts from the victim and his companion, the pair attempted to explain that a mechanical failure had disabled the vehicle's lights. However, their explanations failed to de-escalate the situation, and the confrontation quickly devolved into a heated exchange of verbal abuse.
