Mumbai: At least five devotees died, and 40 others were injured after the roof of the Hanuman temple at Yashwadi village in Maharashtra's Parbhani district collapsed on Saturday. The incident occurred while the temple was crowded with devotees, triggering widespread panic.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police and rescue teams rushed to the temple to launch emergency operations. Efforts are currently underway to rescue those trapped under the debris, while the injured have been shifted to the Parbhani District Civil Hospital for treatment.
Slab Of Hanuman Temple Collapsed, 25 Rescued
A slab of a Hanuman temple collapsed in Yashwadi village on Saturday afternoon. Following the incident, rescue operations were launched at the site, and around 25 people have been rescued from the debris so far.
The village where the accident occurred is located on Manwat Road, approximately 190 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
"The slab of the temple's 'sabha-mandap' (outer hall) collapsed around 3.30 pm. The police and district administration have sent their teams, and a rescue operation is underway. Around 25 people have been brought out from under the debris so far," news agency quoted a PTI official as saying.
Speaking to PTI, another official said that because Saturday is associated with Lord Hanuman, a large crowd of devotees had gathered at the temple when the incident occurred.
Boat Carrying Over 30 Devotees Capsizes In Godavari River
In a separate incident, at least two women died, and several others were injured after a boat carrying 30 to 40 devotees capsized in the Godavari River in Maharashtra's Beed district on Wednesday. According to officials, two women drowned, and one was critical after an overcrowded boat carrying devotees to a temple overturned midstream.
The incident occurred around 11 am in Majalgaon tehsil, when the boat was heading to Purushottampuri, a shrine dedicated to Lord Purushottam, located about 20 km from Majalgaon tehsil. Devotees travel by boat on the river to reach the temple. The shrine has been witnessing a huge influx of devotees from across Maharashtra and the country due to the ongoing holy month of 'Adhik Maas'.
