An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur for her alleged derogatory remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, police said on Sunday.

What Did Mahua Moitra Say?

While speaking to reporters in West Bengal’s Nadia district about the infiltration of illegal immigrants into the Indian territory on Thursday, Moitra said that Shah should be beheaded and his severed head should be put on a table for display.

“If India’s borders can’t be protected, if infiltrators are entering in hundreds, disrespecting our women, taking over our lands, then it is your duty to cut Amit Shah’s head and put it on the table,” MP Moitra said.

Her derogatory remarks drew sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party, following which a case was registered on Saturday at Mana police station. “The FIR cites sections 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.) and 197 (imputations prejudicial to national integration) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” a police officer was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Moitra also accused the BJP of shirking its responsibility in ensuring border security, particularly in border states like West Bengal. “Standing at Red Fort, the PM himself said infiltrators are causing demographic changes. But even as he was saying this, his Home Minister was standing in the front row, smiling and clapping,” she said.

The BJP has demanded an apology from Moitra for her derogatory comments against Shah. Condemning her comments, BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Her statement is condemnable. Her membership has been revoked once. Now, will she want to repeat this again? She used such words against the country’s Home Minister; what status do such people have? What kind of people does Mamata Banerjee have?”
