Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra stirred controversy in the Lok Sabha on Friday by referencing the death of CBI court judge BH Loya during her speech. Referring to him as someone ‘who is resting in peace long before his time’, her remark sparked a heated uproar in the House, drawing sharp reactions from political opponents.
Judge Loya's 2014 death sparked controversy due to allegations of foul play in a media report, as he was handling a sensitive case. The Supreme Court later ruled there was no merit in these claims, stating he died of natural causes.
In her speech, Mahua Moitra reminded the House that while the Defence Minister had praised Justice HR Khanna's courage to dissent in 1976, Justice Khanna lived for 32 more years under a Congress regime. She contrasted this with Judge Loya, who died prematurely, saying he was 'resting in peace long before his time'.
Speaker Om Birla intervened, asking Mahua Moitra to authenticate her claims. He also assured opposition members that he would address their concerns about the language used by Rijiju, which some MPs considered threatening towards a female parliamentarian.

Rijiju Warns Of 'Appropriate Parliamentary Action'
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju accused Moitra of raising an issue that had already been settled by the Supreme Court and warned of 'appropriate parliamentary action'.
“We will take appropriate parliamentary action. You cannot escape. You are setting a very wrong precedent," said Rijiju.

The House was adjourned twice briefly due to the uproar over the matter. After the disruption, TMC leader Mahua Moitra posted on X, accusing Law Minister Kiren Rijiju of ‘threatening’ her and stating that he would face action. Rijiju, in response, said in the House that Moitra would face appropriate parliamentary action, warning her against setting a wrong precedent.
And btw all the media outlets who are reporting that Parliament Affairs Minster warned me - it is he who will face action for threatening me! His remarks to be deleted- not mine!
