The South Western Railway has announced special trains between Yeshwantpur and Talaguppa to manage the passenger surge on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. The move is expected to benefit commuters in Shivamogga, Sagara, Tumakuru and the surrounding regions. Makar Sankranti is a major harvest festival in Karnataka and is celebrated with unique local traditions under the name Suggi Habba. The festival will be observed on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Makar Sankranti Special Trains

  • The South Western Railway has decided to run two special express trains in January. 

  • The special trains between Yeshwantpur and Talaguppa will operate on January 13, 14, 23 and 24. 

  • Train number 06585 will depart from Yeshwantpur at 10:45 pm and will reach Talaguppa the next day at 4:45 am. 

  • Train number 06586/06588 will depart from Talaguppa at 10 am and will arrive at Yeshwantpur at 5:15 pm the next day. 

  • These special trains will halt at major stations, including Tumakuru, Tiptur, Arasikere, Birur, Tarikere, Bhadravathi, Shivamogga Town, Anandapuram and Sagara Jambagaru.

  • The special trains are also expected to bring relief to the passengers of central and coastal Karnataka.

Bengaluru-Bidar Special Train Extended

The South Western Railway has also announced an extension of the special (bi-weekly) express between SMVT Bengaluru and Bidar. The train will now operate every Friday and Sunday from January 2 to February 27. On the return leg, the train will run every Saturday and Monday from January 3 to February 28. The extended service of the Bengaluru-Bidar bi-weekly special has added 17 extra trips, thereby giving travellers a plethora of options during the festive rush.
